Simple Morning Hack for More Energy + Mental Clarity

If you ever drive by my place in the early morning, you'll most likely see someone (ahem me) in a knit hat, hoodie with yoga pants walking barefoot in her yard.  Every single morning come RAIN or shine...I walk for a few minutes with my bare feet in the soil.

Why exactly?

Because it's said by placing your naked feet on the ground, free electrons are taken up into the body which release the positive ions that's been built up from free radicals, inflammation, exposure to technology/screens, etc.

It's known as grounding... or earthing, pending on who you ask.

BENEFITS OF GROUNDING

Excess amounts of positive ions in our bodies can disrupt cellular metabolism and increase inflammation.  Hello!  Heck, no, inflammation has got to go!  *Could you hear me chant this out loud?*.   Anywho.

By putting my feet in soil for just 10 minutes every morning, the benefits I could reap include:

  • reduce inflammation
  • balance body's rhythm
  • boost my mood and energy without a caffeine fix
  • improve wound healing
  • improve and aid in getting a good night's sleep
  • set my heart right for the day

HACKS TO GROUNDING

When you are getting started on grounding, you may feel a wee bit weird just standing in the yard soaking up sunshine.  Well, maybe you won't.... I did.  So, I discovered when you are grounding there are a few ways to actually GET GROUNDED + be in the moment.

It all starts with tuning into all your senses...

  • Take a beat to look around and take note of FIVE things around you that you see.
  • Take a deep breath to recenter and FEEL four things around you.  Maybe it's the snow or a frozen icicle.  Maybe it's a flower or a blade of grass.  FEEL into the moment.
  • Take another deep breath and tune into three things you can hear!  Do you hear a dog barking, the wind through the trees, an ice cream truck?  Plug into the noise around you.
  • Take another deep breath and shift the focus to two things you can smell.  Do you smell fresh pine?  Do you smell a sweet flower or is there something stinky up your area like a skunk!
  • Take another deep breath and identify what you can taste.  Are you sipping coffee at this time or can you taste the peppermint chapstick on your lips?  Maybe it's nothing... but just be in the moment with ALL your senses to feel fully grounded.

ADDING AFFIRMATIONS

For an added BONUS, I make sure to soak up some morning sunshine at the same time for a wee bit more goodness AND even take a beat to whisper some words of affirmations.

One thing I learned recently is when saying affirmation statements... it's not just about saying, "I AM....." but actually having some truth in the statement, KNOWING it will come to fruition.

There's only two currencies in life:  time and energy. We may not be able to generate more time, but you certainly can generate more energy.  Let me show you how!

Note

The quote, "A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one", is one of my favorites as it celebrates the ability to be passionate about more than one thing.  A few of my passions shared on this website include: business strategy, biohacks, books and badsass endurance events.
